Hi Karen,
We met back in 2019 when you spoke to our Red Cross DEI group at our office in Silver Spring.
We would love to invite you back. March is Red Cross month and we'd love to hear more about your experience as a trans volunteer with our organization. We also had a question from a staff member requesting more information about whether LGBTQ+ acceptance in the military is increasing and whether that truly extends to the trans community.
The event would be virtual (held on Microsoft Teams) and would be open to all staff and volunteers in the National Capital and Greater Chesapeake Region. We typically get about 30-60 people joining these monthly calls.
I'm glad to set up a time to chat to further flesh out the structure of the presentation.
Thank you for considering!

WHAT?: Join trans students, parents, families, and allies in the community as we gather together for trans student rights. This event will take place outside the Board of Education before the meeting. According to emails from the Board, during this meeting, policy protecting trans students will be discussed. We need the Board to realize how important (and urgent!) these issues are to the Frederick community, and we can do that by showing up in numbers.
WHY?: Trans students are the highest at-risk population in schools. Compare the rates of suicide from 4.6% of the general American population to 41% of trans folks. When trans students can't use the restroom of their choice at school, or when their educators and peers refuse to use the correct name and pronouns, they are in danger. Policy and regulation guarantee a positive and affirming experience in schools.

Recently the National Center for Transgender Equality released its new survey of transgender adults in the U.S., which painted some bleak statistics about the community. However, these statistics do not reflect the lived reality of much of the community. Many of them, sometimes despite great personal hardship, and sometimes with the support of friends, allies, and organizations, have done great things with their professional careers. They represent everything almost any parent would hope their children grow into. When building a list of transgender people with great careers, there were five basic criterion: 1.They are American. 2.They are currently living. 3.They've had successful careers after transition. 4.Their careers should have little to nothing to do with being transgender (i.e, trans people can be something other than professional advocates). 5.They are publicly out as transgender.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance serves several purposes. It raises public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people, an action that current media doesn't perform. Day of Remembrance publicly mourns and honors the lives of our brothers and sisters who might otherwise be forgotten. Through the vigil, we express love and respect for our people in the face of national indifference and hatred. Day of Remembrance reminds non-transgender people that we are their sons, daughters, parents, friends and lovers. Day of Remembrance gives our allies a chance to step forward with us and stand in vigil, memorializing those of us who've died by anti-transgender violence.

Session will be talking about women's education, workplace experiences, and work-life balance. In the last two weeks of the semester, we'll be talking about mental health and violence against girls and women. A central theme in the course is intersectionality—the idea that in order to have a more full appreciation of women's experiences, we have to consider how multiple identities may intersect (e.g., racial identity, ethnic identity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious identity, etc.).

Living Gender features transgender and gender non-conforming (GNC) persons who are living their gender within their various social locations to ability, age, race, sexuality, and etc. Far too often, trans and GNC communities are silenced by a lack of honest and true media representation. Houghtaling seeks to honor the spectrums of identities that exists in the everyday lives of trans and GNC people. The photos are largely unedited to maintain the humanness of the subject. Each person photographed has a story. Each story is an everyday, extraordinary life.
